Celebrate twenty years of AK Press at the NYC Anarchist Bookfair!

Posted on April 14th, 2010 in AK Authors!, Anarchist Publishers, Happenings

BookfairThis weekend AK Press heads back to New York City for the fourth annual NYC Anarchist Bookfair, held once again at the lovely Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square Park. I love tabling at this event! I’ve been at every NYC Anarchist Bookfair since it started, first tabling for Red Emma’s, and then for AK, and it’s always an enjoyable weekend filled with interesting folks and faces, and great presentations. This year’s bookfair kicks off with an Anarchist Film Festival all day on Friday, then moves on to a day of tabling and bookselling on Saturday, and a full program of talks and workshops on Saturday and again on Sunday.

This year AK’s adding a little something extra to the mix with two very special kickoff events on Thursday and Friday evening, both at Bluestockings Books (172 Allen Street, on the lower east side), our favorite New York radical bookstore!

Thursday, April 15th @ 7PM – Free
Cindy Milstein presents Anarchism and Its Aspirations

Anarchism And Its AspirationsA free society of free individuals…. This ideal has long incited anarchists into action. Please join Cindy Milstein for a reading and discussion of her brand-new (and first-ever!) AK Press book Anarchism and Its Aspirations, which provides a crash course on history’s most influential anarchists and reviews how anarchist principles have been practiced by the likes of situationists, social ecologists, zapatistas, and anti-globalization activists.

Celebrate 20 Years of AK Press!

Join the AK Press Collective at Bluestockings Books as we celebrate twenty years of anarchist publishing – and toast to twenty more!

Over the years AK Press has published hundreds of volumes of anarchist history, radical thought, and critical analysis in hopes of informing and inspiring all of you fine folks fighting for revolutionary change in the world. We’ve evolved and grown (and, sure, experienced some growing pains along the way). But twenty years in, we’re still publishing and distributing some of the best and most important books out there, if we do say so ourselves. And we couldn’t keep doing it without you. And we plan to keep doing it. So please, come join AK Press authors, collective members, and other avid readers and publishers to celebrate all that we have accomplished together – both AK as a publisher and all of us as a movement – and look toward a hopeful future for anarchist publishing!

AK will also be out in full force at the Bookfair itself. We’ll be tabling all day on Saturday, so stop by and say hi and pick up some great new AK titles or sign up for the Friends of AK Press program. Plus, we’ll have authors speaking at the Bookfair itself throughout the weekend, including Seth Tobocman, Cindy Milstein, and two of the editors of our new book on the Greek insurrection of 2008.

Be sure to check out the full list below of great events taking place over the course of the weekend as a part of the Bookfair!
