NYC, Amherst, Providence, Boston: AK Press is coming your way!
NYC Anarchist Bookfair This Weekend!
First things first: this weekend, for those of you who aren’t geographically inclined to attend the legendary Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair happening on the other side of the country, it’s also NYC Anarchist Bookfair weekend for us east coasters! So, like the intrepid tablers that we are, we at AK Baltimore will be loading up our cars tomorrow and heading up to New York with all the latest and greatest AK Press releases and a fine selection of distro titles to round things out. As in past years, the bookfair will be at Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South, in Manhattan. The bookfair-related festivities actually commence tomorrow (Friday) afternoon and evening, with an anarchist film festival. Book tables are open on Saturday from 11–7; and there will be speakers, panels, and workshops all day Saturday and Sunday. Several of our own authors will be featured: the prolific Seth Tobocman will be speaking on the World War 3 Illustrated panel on Saturday at 6:00pm; Damian White (co-editor of the forthcoming Autonomy, Solidarity, Possibility: The Colin Ward Reader) will be speaking at the same time at Bluestockings Bookstore; and Nunzio Pernicone (also the author if Italian Anarchism), will be talking about his book Carlo Tresca: Portrait of a Rebel on Sunday at 2:30pm! Check out the full bookfair schedule online for more details.
AK Press Distro Northeast Tour!
Because one giant (and awesome) bookfair is never enough… AK Press Distro (or, at least I, on behalf of AK Press Distro) will be hitting the road and heading northeast next week! I’m really excited to finally get to meet the folks behind some of the awesome bookstores and projects we’ve been working with for many years, and some new ones too! With the gracious help of these fine folks, we’ve even lined a few opportunities for people to come out and learn more about AK Press, and talk with me about what AK Press is up to and how we can be a resource for projects in your area. So without further ado, the “tour dates” for this trip are:
Tuesday, April 12 from 5:00–7:00pm at Food for Thought Books in Amherst, MA: “Meet and greet” with an AK Press collective member (yours truly, I’ll be the one in the AK Press t-shirt drinking a delicious IPA). They’ll have plenty of AK Press books on hand for 25% off, too!
Wednesday, April 13 from 5:00pm until whenever, at Libertalia Autonomous Space in Providence, RI: A potluck and facilitated discussion. Hear what’s going on at Libertalia, the new radical space; learn all you ever wanted to know about AK Press; eat some food, hang out, and again, stock up on AK Press books at a 25% discount, to support both projects!
Saturday, April 16 in Boston: I’m not scheduling a public event in Boston, partly because folks there are busy organizing the Boston Skillshare, which appears to be a pretty epic event! So I’ll be attending that on Saturday, with some catalogs and goodies to put out for anyone who wants them, and if anyone would like to meet up there and talk shop (say, if you’re interested in starting a local distro, or want to learn more about how AK can help you get your book or film or what have you out into the world, or just want to pick someone’s brain about collectives or radical publishing or what have you), shoot me an e-mail at sales@akpress.org and I’d be happy to meet up.
For those of you in the midwest, I will be coming your way with a similar tour in a couple of months… stay tuned for details!
